An Osun State High Court has sentenced one Kolawole Obafemi to life imprisonment for raping a pregnant woman. This was contained in a statement on Wednesday by an information official of the state, Mr. Opeyemi Bello.
The statement said Justice A. B. Abdulkareem ordered that the convict should also be whipped. The judge convicted Obafemi of one count charge preferred against him in the court. The victim had told the court that on September 15, 2007, Obafemi came to her residence at about 7.30pm.
The statement did not explain the relationship between the duo, but it stated that the convict beat up the victim and tore her clothes. It read in part,
“He (Obafemi) tore her panties and had unlawful carnal knowledge of her. He plucked out her pubic hair and put then in her mouth to drink with dry gin. The medical report obtained from LAUTECH Teaching Hospital confirmed that she was raped. She was also pregnant as of the time of the incident. The court held that the prosecutor Mrs. Rachel Ojimi, a chief state counsel from the ministry of Justice, was able to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt.”
