The Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, had hinted that the Federal Government will not celebrate the death of Shekau but will rather celebrate the laying down of arms by Boko Haram members.

According to the Nigerian Defense Ministry, about 135 insurgents surrendered on Tuesday, September 23, some at Buni-Yadi some 200 kilometers (125 miles) west of Konduga and others at Michika, 165 kilometers (100 miles) south of Konduga.
