Police Arraign Workers for Allegedly Stealing N4.7m Frozen Food
The police have arraigned two men, Amaliri Eze, 35, and Usman Suleiman, 31, before an Ebute Meta Magistrate’s Court, Lagos State, for allegedly stealing frozen food estimated at N4,774,900. PUNCH Metro gathered that the two men were employed by the complainant, Mrs. Fyne Ogechi, who had a stall in the market.
They were said to have defrauded the complainant between December 2014 and February 2015. They were arrested and arraigned on two counts of stealing. The charge read in part,
“That you, Amaliri Eze,Usman Suleiman, and others at large, between the month of December 2014 and February 2015, from 7am to 6pm at Ijora Fish Market, Ijora Olopa, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did steal assorted frozen food worth N4,774,900, property of one Fyne Ojechi.”
The offence was said to be punishable under sections 409 and 285(7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge. The defence counsel subsequently applied for bail in liberal terms. The magistrate, Mr. O.O. Olatunji, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500, 000 each, with two responsible sureties in like sum.
The matter was adjourned till March 12, 2015.
