A 22-year-old man has landed in prison after he was found guilty of stealing an Ipad in a church in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
The convict, Shedrack Ojukwu, was on Wednesday, 13 August, 2014 sentenced by the Senior Magistrate, Chukwuemeka Ubani, at Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court, Abuja to two months imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to the two-count charge.
It was gathered that Ojukwu, who resides at Mashafa Road, Mpape, Abuja, was arraigned for criminal trespass and theft contrary to Section 348 and 287 of the Penal Code.
According to the magistrate, the convict is to spend one month in prison or pay a fine of N2000 for the offence of criminal trespass.
Also, Chukwu is to spend another one month or pay N3000 fine for the offence of theft, while the sentences are to run consecutively.
Narrating how the convict committed the offence, Police prosecutor Christian Munonye said that Mr. Ojukwu criminally trespassed into Our Lady Queen of Nigeria Catholic Church in Area 3, Abuja, pretending to be one of the worshippers.
He said that the convict stole the Ipad when other worshippers were going to the altar to give their offering.
Mr. Munonye said the convict was arrested by a police officer, Sgt. Jibo Mohammed, when he was leaving the church premises and taken to Garki Police Station on 9 August, 2014.
He however, stated that the Ipad was recovered from Chukwu during police investigation.
