Osinbajo beat other potential candidates that reportedly included Governor of rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, Governor Adams Oshiuomhole of Edo State, and former Lagos Senator Olorunnimbe Mamora
He is a Law Professor at the University of Lagos and served as Special Advisor to Attorney General Of Nigeria and Minister of Justice between 1988 to 1991.
